Cuairt an Mhéara – The Mayor’s Visit

Le Gráinne agus Aoife

Ar an 26ú lá de mí na Samhna mar chuid don chlár Erasmus +, tháinig Méara Fhine Gall chuig Coláiste Ghlór ná Mara chun glac leis an Bonn inár bhronn Árdmhéara Ribadavia ar Fhine Gall. Bhí sé seo mar cheann de na céad céimeanna chun cuir an clár Erasmus + a chur i bhfeidhm. Bhí go leor eagrúcháin i gceist leis an ócáid seo agus d’éirigh go maith leis.

Bhí ceithre dalta roghnaithe le hóráid a tabhairt nó fáiltiú a thabhairt chuig an Ardmhaoire chuig ár scoil. Thug Aoife Ní Ch agus James Ó B an óráid os comhair na scoile uilig faoi céard go díreach é Erasmus +. Rinne siad cleachtadh ar feadh cúpla lá roimhe chomh maith leis an maidin inár tharla sé. Bhí Darragh Ó B agus Gráinne roghnaithe chun fáiltiú a thabhairt chuig an Méara. Thug siad fáiltiú chuige ar son na scoile agus chomh maith ar son an clár Erasmus +. Ag thart ar a haon a chlog shroich an Méara an scoil.

Tháinig iriseoirí ó ‘Dublin People’ agus ‘Balbriggan Info’ chuig an scoil agus glacadh grianghraif i gcomhair na nuachtán agus i gcomhair suíomh na scoile. Nuair a shúil an Méara isteach thosaigh cór na scoile ag canadh ‘Abair leat’, amhráin faoi thábhacht teanga na hÉireann agus ár gcultúr. Le gach duine socraithe sa halla, tháinig Múinteoir Cian, an múinteoir Erasmus +, suas ós comhair na scoile ar fad chun tús a chur ar an ócáid.

Chuir sé físeán ar siúl le go leor pictiúr faoinár scoil agus faoinár gceantar. Thaispeáin sé an físeán seo chuig muintir Ribadavia cúpla mhí níos luaithe. Ansin tháinig Aoife agus James suas ós comhair an slua mór agus dúirt siad a n-óráid. Ní hamháin go raibh siad ag caint faoi cé chomh maith is a raibh an deis seo, ach labhair Aoife agus James faoi ná rudaí a beidh orainn a dhéanamh. Tar éis sin, tháinig Múinteoir Cian ar ais suas chomh maith le Múinteoir Andrea (teagascóir na hidirbhliana), múinteoir Sarah (múinteoir Spáinnis) agus Múinteoir Fiachra (an leas-phríomhoide) suas leis an Méara.

Bhronn dalta, Ella, an bonn ar an Méara. Thug an Méara óráid bheag faoi cé chomh bródúil is a bhfuil sé go bhfuil muid ag déanamh ionadaíocht dár gceantar agus faoi na háiseanna éagsúla inár gceantar. Tháinig críoch leis an lá le cúpla dalta ón gcéad bhliain ag seinm amhráin traidisiúnta agus d’fhág an Méara. Tús maith leath na hoibre

On the 26th of November as part of the Erasmus + program, the mayor of Fingal came to Coláiste Glór Na Mara to accept the medal presented by the Mayor of Ribadavia to Fingal. It was one of the first steps to get the Erasmus + program into full swing. There was a lot of preparation involved with this occasion and it went incredibly well!

Five students were chosen either to give a speech or to give welcome the mayor to our school or present the medal to the Mayor. Aoife Ní Ch and James Ó B were chosen to give a speech in front of the whole school on what the Erasmus + program was all about. They were practicing the whole day as well as the days that led up to this important event.

Darragh and Gráinne were chosen to welcome the Mayor. They were welcoming him on behalf of the school as well on behalf of the Erasmus program. At around one o’clock the Mayor arrived at the school. Reporters from ‘Dublin People’ and ‘Balbriggan Info’ came to the school and pictures were taken for the papers and the school’s website.

When the Mayor walked into the school, the school’s choir began to sing ‘Abair leat’ a song about the importance of the Irish language and our culture. With everyone settled into the hall Múinteoir Cian, the Erasmus + teacher, came up in front of the school an begin the event. He put on a video that showed pictures of the school and of our local region. He showed this same video to the people of Ribadavia only a few months beforehand. Then Aoife and James walked up in front of the big crowed and gave their speech.

They weren’t only just talking about how good this opportunity is but also what we will be doing. Afterwards Múnteoir Cian came back up along with Múinteoir Andrea (transition year instructor), Múinteoir Sarah (Spanish teacher), Múinteoir Fiachra (vice-principal) and the Mayor. A student, Ella, presented the medal to the Mayor. The Mayor then gave a short speech on how proud he was of our school for representing our local region and about our amenities in our local region. The day came to a close with a few students from first year playing traditional Irish songs as the mayor left the school. Tús maith leath na hobire.
